In addition to manufacturing all York products in the Midwestern United States, Johnson Controls has a rich history of 125 years in serving various industries and interests within the country. Here are some of the highlights of Johnson Controls. We hope you enjoy their products as much as we do!

1885: Warren Johnson inspired the future, launching an industry focused on energy efficiency and a company poised to explore new ideas and enter new fields.

1901: Settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Johnson Service Company began making steam-powered cars and trucks, and six years later introduced a line of gasoline cars featuring

           luxurious leather and wood interiors.

1924: Johnson Service introduced the Dual Thermostat to lower temperatures during building offhours.

Ten years later, the Duo-Stat was introduced—adjusting building temperature based on

outdoor conditions. With the onslaught of the Great Depression, a need for fuel savings made Johnson’s comfort products an absolute necessity.

1938: Joseph A. Cutler became president. As the Great Depression moved into WWII, Johnson Controls equipped defense facilities with temperature and humidity control

          systems.

1955: Johnson Service installed temperature-regulating apparatus in the virus incubation rooms.

1960s: Johnson Service provided mission control instrumentation for the Apollo and Saturn programs.

1972: Johnson Service introduced the industry’s first mini-computer system dedicated to building control. This technology could reduce fuel use as much as 30 percent.

1974: The company took on the name Johnson Controls.

1985: Johnson Controls became the leading independent supplier of automotive seats.

1990: Johnson Controls introduced the Metasys building management system which integrates management of a building’s environment, energy use, lighting, fire safety and

security, and today offers Web and wireless capabilities.

2005: Johnson Controls acquired York International—becoming the leading provider of equipment and controls for heating, ventilating, and air conditioning.
